Recently, attorney Scott Koplik helped a client obtain a $1.45 million settlement in a motor vehicle accident case. While waiting at a red light, the plaintiff’s vehicle was struck from behind by a cement mixer truck. The plaintiff suffered serious injuries to her cervical and lumbar spine, which required multiple discectomy and fusion surgeries. The defendants, their insurance company and attorneys vehemently disputed the severity of the plaintiff’s injuries and inability to return to work. Before jury selection, Mr. Koplik settled the case for $1.45 million. It was the second largest reported motor vehicle settlement in the country in July 2015.

New York City personal injury attorney Scott Koplik is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, the most prestigious group of trial attorneys in the country. Membership is limited to those who have achieved a million or multi-million dollar outcome for their client. Fewer than 1% of lawyers in the U.S. have been allowed to join.
Mr. Koplik has repeatedly obtained multi-million dollar awards for his clients, and has practiced before the Supreme Courts in both New Jersey and Delaware. He helped sustain on appeal a $5.6 million verdict on behalf of a victim of LASIK surgery malpractice. Additionally, Mr. Koplik represented a real estate developer in his suit against a residential builder. Ultimately, Mr. Koplik’s client was awarded $7.8 million, which was affirmed on appeal to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Koplik successfully represented a LASIK malpractice plaintiff on appeal to Supreme Court of Delaware, in a landmark case which established two important points of law which can greatly assist plaintiffs at trial:
- Defense counsel are prohibited from questioning the plaintiff-patient about surgical informed consent form during cross-examination; and
- Trial judge must conduct an investigation into any allegations of improper outside internet research by a juror.
(Baird v. Owczarek, 93 A.3d 1222 (2014)).
